New deals for Texas residents as Caribbean cruises reach record numbers

By Heather Alexander

Cruise lines are offering a special discount for Texas residents right now, according to travel agents, as the back-to-school lull hits this booming industry.

GalvestonCruises.com says the discount varies from cruiseline to cruiseline but a five-day Caribbean trip from Galveston this weekend starts at just $219 per person.

“Rates always drop after school starts back,” said Claire Johnson from GalvestonCruises.com, “Everybody has discounts right now, Royal Caribbean, Carnival. Then Princess and Norwegian are coming in October.”

The Caribbean is the biggest market for cruises worldwide and is seeing record numbers of ships go out.  A Fort-Worth Star-Telegram special feature on the industry says 235 ships will sail in the Caribbean this year compared to 2012 in 2011
